About Tutor Help

Hello my name is Joseph Sgro and I started Tutor Help in 1992. Tutor Help caters for both the adult and the student audience by selling a range of home study courses, face-to-face tutoring and online tutoring.

My Background

I started as a primary school teacher in 1977, in Merredin,a town in the eastern wheatbelt of Western Australia. That same year I was transferred to Capel, where I took a keen interest inreading education.

I remained in primary teaching for six and a half years. After completing a diploma in reading education I took a year off from teaching and began my Postgraduate in Education Studies-Reading.

In 1985 I had really had enough of teaching in the primary school and took up a post in the secondary school as as Reading Resource Teacher. Although I enjoyed the area of work he began to find that the system was wearing me down.

In 1986 I started to learn about the stock market and dabbled in trading gold stocks.

After returning from long service leave in 1989 I started at a newschool and began to plan my exit out of a system I felt was very unsatisfying.I started Tutor Help in 1992.

I went from having no computer to owning 2 and possessing very little knowledge of how to use them.

At 37, my sights were set on new horizons. Having spent the last16 years in teaching I felt I had missed out on the other things life had to offer and was determined to look for greener grass.

In 1992 he started to record my life experiences and his personal philosophy, my first book for me, entitled,"Just an Idea". The logical step after leaving teaching was to do something Ie knew something about.

In 1994 he began to write about what I knew most about - teaching. I decided to start writing educational materials for the secondary school. "Study Skills", was the first production. This was followed in 1995 by a study skills guide. Still not satisfied that I had treated adequately the importance of "attitude"in learning, led to the creation of "Learning & How!". It was an important step because it showed the me the advantages of computer software, over the usual written materials.
