We have to explain why we need to plan and how to plan - the hard part, but without it we are not going to get anywhere. Instant gratification means: I want it now! I can't be bothered planning the essay because that means more work and it's going to take longer to finish. This is where experience comes in. We know that anything thrown together in a hasty fashion will probably end up as a mess. Writing needs to reflect preparation, learning, understanding and it needs to communicate important considerations. Lastly, it needs to be presented in an a clear and easy to read manner, observing certain formalities of the language. In order to achieve your goal you must establish the foundation first. There is planning that needs to take place before you get to your destination. You need to know where you're going and know how to get there. There are things to learn on the way so that you can achieve your goal. Ask yourself what do I need to learn so that I can achieve? Ask also, "who can teach me what I need to know?" No plan is the same as saying "we'll see what happens". Be an active learner, be creative and set your own course. Learn from your successes and failures to help you accomplish the next step.
